The second quarter of 2016 is a good 5% cashback season. Chase offers 5% on Grocery Stores and Warehouse Clubs, and Discover is diversifying into two more popular categories, restaurants and movies!
Restaurants includes a variety of popular restaurants and food places such as Red Lobster, Starbucks, Chili’s, Arby’s, Applebees, Wendy’s and so forth. Basically any food place that is registered with Discover as a restaurant and is primarily in business as a restaurant. If not certain, contact their customer service or make a small purchase and do the math on your statement 🙂
The movie theater options include various national chains such as IMAX, Regal, AMC, Landmark, but that’s not all. It also includes digital-era services: Netflix, Redbox and Fandango. Granted, those are small amounts (Netflix is $10/mo, Redbox is $1.xx per night) but they add up!
The usual limit of $1500 per quarter per credit card applies. If you have multiple credit cards, you can do up to $1500 on each. If you are below that before the end of the quarter, you can also buy gift cards at those places to use in the future. But be prudent with the gift card purchases, especially if there are any shaky places that may or may not be in business for too long.
