Creating a Steam account is simple at SteamPowered.com. Note however that when you create a profile, your Steam activity is public, so if you don’t want that, go to the Profile Settings and make everything private.
I really hate it that many websites these days make everything public by default without even alerting you that this is the default. Hopefully after the Facebook debacle is settled, they will either do it out of their own volition or be forced by law.
