Google Play has developed new “technology” when it comes to running physical gift card promotions. They run a promotion at Office Depot until 3/11/17 that got you the bonus of renting any Google Play movie for just 99c (eg you could use it for the $6 Arrival rental) IF you purchase a plastic physical Google Play gift card at Office Depot.
But the promotion does not print at the cash register. It gets linked behind the scenes to your specific gift card when you make the Office Depot purchase. This worked on all gift card options, I did this with a $10 gift card.
So in order to redeem the offer, you go to your Google Play account and redeem the gift card the same way you do always. When you do…
… the website notifies you that you are eligible for the promotion. You click the go ahead option and then you see details of the promotion. As you can see, you don’t have to rent a movie right away, you are given some time. Once you rent an actual movie, you have the usual 30 days to begin watching it, and the usual 24/48 hours window (depending on the movie) to finish watching it.
To verify the offer is in your account, go to the Account section of your Google Play account (with a desktop web browser) and you will see it there with the expiration date and terms…
That shows all other active promotions, it’s a handy way to keep track of what’s expiring. Their offers are pretty good, so yo don’t want to miss them 🙂
Starting March 12, the promotion will be different, you will get in-game bonuses instead of a movie rental discount. Check the Office Depot website or their weekly ad for the details.
