Free TV Pilots: Complications (USA) and Killjoys (Syfy)

This is a hot summer TV season with more and more shows coming out. If you like to checkout the pilots, uninterrupted by annoying ads, for a limited time, the following pilots are FREE to own and in HD (unless otherwise indicated):

Also free, not a pilot but the first episode of Season 2 of TNT’s “The Last Ship” is available for a limited time for FREE on iTunes.

June 24-30: 18oz Fresh Blueberries for $2 (limit 4)

This is the best blueberries deal I recall seeing! During the week of June 24-30 (2015), at Smart and Final stores, according to their Weekly Ad, you can get a 18oz pack of fresh blueberries for just $2. That’s an insane $1 for 9 oz! There is a limit of four per customer per visit. Their weekly runs from Wednesday AM to Tuesday PM. If the initial wave sells out quickly, they could restock later on during the shopping week.

Google Nexus Player by ASUS for $67 [Android TV]

Apple accidentally started a streaming box price war when they discounted their prehistoric Apple TV earlier in the year. As a result, there are some good news on non-Apple streaming boxes as well. Case in point, the Google Nexus player (Android TV) made by ASUS is currently on sale, in new condition, for around $67 at Amazon.com. A gamepad is available but it is sold separately and it is optional for the operation of the device.

Audio CD: Nirvana’s Live at Reading for $5

If you like buying Audio CDs because you can get 16-bit 44 kHz audio and convert it to FLAC, a great deal is available at Amazon, the 25-track Live at Reading by Nirvana is on sale for $5, in new condition. On top of that, you also get the mp3 version of the album available immediately after you place an order. As the title suggests, this is a live album.

Amazon Prime members now can order from AmazonFresh with a Fee

If you are an Amazon Prime member, you have a new non-free benefit in your account now. Prime members can now place orders through AmazonFresh without having to be part of the $300 per year AmazonFresh program. However, there is a delivery fee, for orders over $50, you pay a flat $8 delivery fee. If you are an AmazonFresh member, you pay a $0 delivery fee for orders over $50.

You can do the math, basically if you only occasionally want to get groceries from Fresh, or you place large but infrequent orders, Prime with the $8 delivery fee is the way to go. The Prime membership is $100 per year, while the AmazonFresh (which includes all the Prime benefits by the way) is $300 per year. So a difference of $200, divided by $8, means if you plan to place under 25 AmazonFresh orders per year, you save more with Prime plus delivery fee.

June 23-29: Buy 3 Fraps, Get 8 Bonus Stars Total

Starbucks continues its Rewards attach in this summer with yet another promotion. This runs June 23-29 in 2015 and goes like this: if you purchase three Frappuccino blended drinks during this period, you will receive 8 Bonus Stars at the end of this promotional period. This is a “challenge” type thing, you can only use it once during this promotion and you will receive the bonus stars by July 9. You don’t have to manually opt-in. You still earn the usual one star per purchase.

Please note that some of these offers may be targeted, so always check your email or your Starbucks apps to make sure you are eligible for these promotions. I have no way of knowing how many people get offered these.

June 22 – July 19: $2 off 1 lb of Coffee Beans at Peets

If you like “real” coffee beans, Peet’s Coffee stores have a month long promotion, running June 22 until the end of day on July 19 in 2015 that gets you $2 off a purchase of one pound of coffee beans (they can also grind it for you in-store). This is only good for actual Peet’s stores, not groceries or airports and such. You can use it as many times as you like during this promotion. Simply show the employee the email of this promotion or even just mention it the $2 off email coupon.

5 oz Tattle Tea Loose Leaf Orange Pekoe for $2.33 (limit 10)

If you like standard loose leaf black tea, for a limited time (the prices go all over the place), you can get a 5 oz sealed bag of Tattle Tea Loose Leaf tea for just $2.33 per bag with a limit of ten per customer at amazon.com. There is a catch to this however, it is part of the Add-On program, which means you must place a $25+ order, otherwise you will not be able to purchase it. This restriction applies to everyone, including Prime members. Tattle Tea prices are all over the board, just look at their various options.

This is a pretty low price per ounce. For comparison, one of the best sellers at Amazon is the Davidson’s 1 lb Gunpowder Green going for $10 which averages 62.5c per oz, and that’s on triple the quantity in a generic bag.

Prime members: $10 off $50+ Patio, Lawn and Garden order

For Amazon Prime members only, and for a limited time only, coupon code 10PROMO86 gets you $10 off an order of $50+ from the Amazon Patio, Lawn and Garden department. Eligible items must be sold by Amazon.com, not by the marketplace sellers over there. There is no expiration date mentioned on that page (or I didn’t find it) but it is a limited time offer. This page has the Terms and Conditions, along with the eligible product categories below them.

NOTE: this offer only shows IF you are a Prime member and logged on to your Amazon account while visiting it! If not to both, you’ll just see the various product categories, no promotion.

TD Ameritrade Credit Card gives 1.5% to 1.6% cashback

TD Ameritrade, the Borg discount investment company made up of TD Waterhouse, Ameritrade and Datek, has a credit card that gets you unconditional 1.5% cashback on purchases, with no annual fee, and no limits. And if you select to deposit your cashback into a TD Ameritrade account, you earn an extra 10% bonus on your rewards, effectively making it 1.6% instead of 1.5%. This is a Visa Signature so you get additional benefits. If you are a current or previous client, they have sent by postal mail a shiny folded postcard size promotion.

Scotch 5 yard Dry Erase Tape for $2.09

If you are a dry-erase fan, stop reading this! The Scotch 1.88″ by 5 yard white dry-erase tape (yes, you are reading correctly!) is currently on sale for $2.09 each at amazon.com. You can buy as many as you like at this price. The single units handily crash the prices of their other multi-unit packs during this promotion.

There is one catch however – this is part of the Amazon Add-On Program, so you must place an order with a total of $25 (in various eligible items, not just Add-On items) in order to be able to purchase this. You can’t pay for shipping out of your own pocket even if you want to. Your order total must be $25+. It’s their rules, don’t yell at me 🙂 This restriction also applies to Prime members.

Likewise, the black Chalkboard tape (same dimensions as above) is on sale for $1.50 each, again, you can buy as many as you like, but this too is part of the Add-On program with the same restrictions as the paragraph above.

Since there are no quantity limits on the tapes, you could for example buy 13 of the white or 16 of the black and get over $25.

Fosmon S-shape case for LG Nexus 4 for $2.80 w/free S&H

If you are looking for a basic but workable case for your LG Google Nexus 4, shipping from the USA, not China, you can get this Fosmon DURA S Series TPU case for $2.80 with free shipping by SF Planet thru Amazon. This ships from SF Planet, so everyone gets free shipping regardless of order size. On the other hand, you don’t get free 2-day shipping if you are a Prime member. The only issue I can think of with this case is that you can’t easily take a screenshot single-handed.

Lord of the Rings Theatrical Trilogy BluRay for $13

If you like the Lord of the Rings movies as they were seen in the movie theaters, but don’t want all the extras and extended scenes, you can save a lot with this special edition at amazon.com, the original theatrical release trilogy (three LOTR movies, not Hobbit movies) for $13 total. You just get the movies on BluRay, no Digital Copy. Limit two per customer during this sale. Free 2-day shipping if you are a Prime member (or if you select slow shipping, you get a $2 digital credit towards future digital purchases).

Rent Jurassic Park in HD for 99c

With the new Jurassic Park movie generating a lot of buzz, the one that started it all is currently available as a 99c digital rental (in HD or SD) at Amazon Instant Video (AIV). This runs for 2 hours and 8 minutes. You can play it on a device capable of handling AIV as usual. Once you rent it, you have 30 days to watch it. Once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to watch as many times as you please. If you don’t start watching within 30 days, unfortunately you do not get a refund, so don’t rent unless you are certain you are going to have the time to watch it.

On the other hand, if you are feeling Jurassic World hype, Amazon has a triple bundle for $30 that gets you $15 in Fandango to watch Jurassic World, a pre-order of the Jurassic World BluRay Combo Pack, and the original Digital HD copy of the original 1993 movie.

June 21-27: 100pk Lipton Tea for $3 (or $2.50 with coupon)

For the week of June 21-27 (2015) at Walgreens stores, you can get a 100 pack of Lipton tea bags for $3. This is the sale price without coupons. However, in the Sunday papers there will be a 50c off coupon, which will bring the price down to $2.50. That’s about 2.5c per tea bag!

Of course you can beat that price if you go to a Dollar Store or at Walmart supermarkets where you may be able to find 100pks of tea for around $1. Of course they are going to be generic or unnamed brands, versus Lipton.
