  • If you have Discover Credit Cards, MAKE SURE you enroll them in the Q3 5% Quarterly Rewards. Amazon gets 5% up to $1500 in purchases between July 1 and September 30. The $1500 limit is per credit card
  • Don’t wait until that day to add those credit cards to your Amazon account. Add them now, so they’ll be ready to checkout when you find good deals. You can also make them as your default payment methods if you want to scoop up 5% on digital purchases and recurring subscriptions
  • the default Amazon Chase VISA credit card gives you a 3% on Amazon purchases all year long. Citi Forward gave 5% (but in Points, not Cash) but they took away the 5% on Amazon (however, I don’t know if they did this to all Forward cards or only some of them)
  • another way to score 5% on Amazon purchases is to apply for an Amazon Store Credit Card (not to be confused with the Chase VISA credit card). The Store Credit Card, just like other Store Credit Cards, can only be used at Amazon. They typically have some kind of promotion to get you started, eg a $20 gift card when you apply and make a purchase, so look for those while browsing around the Amazon website
  • If you don’t have a Discover credit card, but you have an American Express, you may be eligible for a 2X Points Promotion until the end of July. You have to check your AMEX Offers to see if it’s there or if you added it to your account while deal-sleep-walking 🙂 It should look like this
  • do a checkup on your Amazon account. Make sure the Addresses and Credit Cards are all up to date. Check your various balances, Gift Cards, Promotional Credits, etc, so you’ll know what to do payment-wise when the time to buy that big deal comes
  • if you have Amazon Gift Cards other people gave you, load them on your account! Don’t let them sit in a drawer!
  • if there are any upcoming Lightning Deals of interest, you can use the Amazon Apps (iOS, Android) to put them on your Watch List and your phone will pester you when they are about to go live ~ how exactly depends on how Notifications are setup on your phone and OS
