Free TV Pilots (HD, no ads): Mr Robot & Briefcase & Secrets and Wives

Summer TV season is no longer just an afterthought for a variety of reasons, such as preventing good shows from getting lost in the chaos of the regular TV season, plus more possibilities for new audience joining in later with the various on-demand viewing options. Some of the latest new shows offer their pilot episode in HD for free and more importantly perhaps, commercial-free. These are typically free for a limited time only, but I don’t know when the free offers end:

If you have a Samsung device, and a Samsung account and use the Samsung Galaxy Apps Android store, and you install the Kindle app from the Samsung app store (not Google Play), you can get one free e-book per month. This is not unconditional, you have a choice between four e-books. The Samsung Kindle app can co-exist with the Google Play Kindle app. I had the Google Play version pre-installed and installing the Samsung version did not interfere. They do not share the same local downloads but obviously share the same cloud library of the same Amazon account.

March 26-29: Free Epix and Starz Previews on Uverse

Not exciting about March Madness? Have Uverse service? You have an extra channel to watch during the March 26-29 (2015) weekend. There is a free preview of the EPIX and Starz movie channels. This happens automatically, there’s nothing you need to do – just locate the EPIX and Starz channels on your line-up. Starz includes various Encore movie channels as well. Just browse the on-screen Guide and see which channels have a live feed (versus the usual subscription blue-screen). If you have a DVR, you can fill it up with movies to watch later on 🙂

Starz is also celebrating the return of Outlander next week, the second half of the first season.

Free TV Pilot: A&E’s The Returned (HD, no commercials)

A brand new TV series, The Returned, that premiered on A&E on Monday 3/9/15 is offering, for a limited time only, the pilot episode for FREE, in HD, and without commercials at Amazon Instant Video. Please note this will be free only for a few days after it premieres. After that, it will sell just like any other online episode ($2 SD, $3 HD).

Points of Confusion

  1. this is an American-made version of the French TV series “The Returned”, which aired on The Sundance Channel in 2013
  2. the A&E TV series is NOT related to the book The Returned by Jason Mott. Mott’s book is the basis of the ABC TV series “Resurrection”

Kindle First choices for February 2015 are up: you get two free!

February is here, and a new month, among many other things, means a new free pre-release e-book for Amazon Prime members. Except this time, just like January 2015, you can pick two of the four choices for free!

The four options this month are:

  • “The Mermaid’s Sister” by Carrie Anne Noble under Fantasy
  • “The Dead Key” by DM Pulley under Mysteries
  • “Wreckage” by Emily Bleeker under Contemporary Fiction
  • “The One That Got Away” by Simon Wood under Thriller

You get to read two of these books right now. The rest of the world can read them on March 1st when they get released to the general population. So if you happen to be interested in more than two of the above, simply pick two now, and buy the others on March 1st. They all have the same list price of $5.

You can see the choices at the Kindle First page.

Free ebook by U of Chicago Press: on Ambergis

On the free e-book front, the University of Chicago Press freebie for February 2015 is a book by Christopher Kemp, “Floating Gold: A Natural (and Unnatural) History of Ambergris”. It is 232 pages long, published in 2012. It is not a DRM-free e-book, it requires a reader app compatible with Adobe’s DRM abomination.

You need to give the publisher your email address at their website in order to get it. They will email you with a link to BiblioVault where you can download it. Once in their email list, they will send you a monthly reminder for the free e-book of the month.

Free from Google Play: Motley Crue Greatest Hits and Hardwell remix

For a limited time only, Google Play is offering these two mp3-albums for FREE as long as you have a Google Play account. First up, it is the Greatest Hits by Motley Crue with 23 tracks and a total runtime of 99 minutes. Next up, for remix fans, it is Hardwell’s Revealed in a GPE remix.

Since Google is apparently abandoning GPE phones, mayhaps they are now focusing on GPE remixes 😉
