Lara Bar fans, unite and take over! The 25% off clip-on coupons are back again at amazon.com for a number of flavors (but not all of them) in 16-packs. As usual, the clip-on coupons work only if Amazon actual (not marketplace sellers) are the seller of a product.

Better yet, the clip-on coupons work on both a normal price or a “Subscribe and Save” (SaS) purchase. Keep in mind, if you do a SaS, the coupon only applies to the first purchase. Subsequent purchases will be based on the future current price of an item.

If you haven’t tried these before, try some of the Coconut flavors, or the Cashew Cookie which only has two ingredients (cashews and dates) and nothing more.

50% off Quest Bars with coupon

My oh my! If you are a fan of the Quest Bars, don’t walk but RUN to Amazon.com where they offer half-off most of the Quest Bar 12 packs they offer on their website. This is the customary Amazon green Clip-ON coupon, and brings more flavors down to around $1 per bar, or slightly less.

The promotion is good for either the classic 1-Time Purchase (the usual way of shopping at Amazon), or their “Subscribe and Save”. This is the normal Amazon, not PrimePantry, not AmazonFresh.

The best deal in terms of lowest price per bar is the Cookies ‘n’ Cream which drops from $21.49 to under $11 for the 12-pack!

12pk Strong Kind Bars (Hickory) for $10.64

If you like your protein bars to be on the spicy side of things, but still give you solid nutrition, the “Hickory Smoked” flavor of the “Strong & Kind” line of Kind bars is on sale for $10.64 at Amazon.com. The sale is so good you are only allowed to buy one. You can also start a “Subscribe and Save” on this with a 5% or 15% discount (depending on how many SnS eligible items you have during a month).

I have repeatedly bought and eaten the whole line-up of these, they are very good, with minimal iffy ingredients, and a solid 10g of nut protein per bar. These are best described as sweet and spicy. They also go well with different beverages, coffee, milk or milk-alternatives, etc.

12pk Health Warrior Protein Bars for $13

They are more famous currently for their small Chia bars, but they have also added to their line-up with the bigger “Health Warrior” bars. These are closer to the standard protein bar size range, with more nutrition to with them (10g protein). And the “Dark Chocolate Cococut and Sea Salt” flavor is currently on sale for just a bit over $13 for the 12-pack at amazon.com. Or if you fond of “Subscribe and Save”, you can get it for an additional discount. This is currently the lowest price of the flavors, and in my opinion, the better tasting 🙂

12pk Strong and Kind Honey Smoked BBQ for under $9 (B&M; YMMV)

This is a YMMV promotion as both availability and pricing may vary from store to store and region to region, but at some Grocery Outlet stores, you may find a 12-pack of the “Strong and Kind” Kind bars in the “Honey Smoked BBQ” flavor for $8.79, or you can buy individual bars for 75 cents each (comes out to $9 for a dozen but you don’t get the colorful cardboard container).

If you are not familiar with these, the “Strong and Kind” are different from the regular Kind bars. They are on the spicy side (varying degrees of spiciness, nothing really that makes you jump up and down). So it’s for fans of sweet and spicy. They are also protein-focused, the almonds are strong with these ones (no pun intended).

This price decidedly defeats Amazon’s prices even with Subscribe and Save discounts factored in.

20% off Subscribe and Save on many RxBar 12-packs

On Mondays, Amazon often has 12-packs of RxBars as Lightning Deals, but if you need more, or your favorite flavors are not participating, there’s another way to get a good deal on them. Currently Amazon is running a 20% off Clip-On coupon on a “Subscribe and Save” (S&S) subscription for the Chocolate Sea Salt flavor.

The price (as of the time of writing) is $24.69 minus the 20% off coupon, you can get the 12-pack for $19.75, which brings it down to around $1.65 per bar, a pretty good price.

Remember though that “Subscribe and Save” is a subscription, so make sure you adjust it according to your needs. The coupon only works on the initial/first purchase, not on subsequent deliveries. The coupon does not work on the “one time purchase”.

The same 20% off clip-on S&S coupon also works on the Coconut Chocolate flavor and the Blueberry flavor and the Maple sea salt along with the Chocolate Mint and finally Peanut Butter.

Because dates are dominating the flavor, I find the Chocolate Sea Salt and the Coffee flavors to be the best, a level above the rest of the flavors. The dates also make some of the other flavors less tasty, eg blueberries. But to each his or her own of course since taste is very personal and subjective 🙂

Having said all that, as of the time of writing (December 8), the best deal is the Blueberry flavor going for $21.73. Minus 20% off drops it to $17.38, which makes it $1.45 per bar.

The prices to meet or beat are $2 per bar if you live near a Trader Joe, which sells them one by one. However, Trader Joe only has a subset of flavors. Alternately, Whole Foods has the individual bars on sale for $2 each every few weeks. Whole Foods seems to have more flavors, but still not the complete line-up.

Deal Pattern: 12pk of RxBars for $20.80 on Mondays

UPDATE #2: if you are planning a Prime Pantry order, as of 10/31/16 PM, the 12pk of Chocolate Sea Salt goes for $20.75. You can buy as many as you can fit into the Prime Pantry box. Each 12pk is 3.6% volume. NOTE that availability of these depends on zipcode because it’s PrimePantry, not the regular Amazon that can ship things all over the place from any warehouse anywhere. Please note this is a recurring pattern but there’s no guarantee it will happen every week. By monitoring the lightning deals and looking at my order history, I discovered that there is a pattern on the 12-pack of the RxBar protein-bars. On some Mondays, different flavors are offered as a 4-hour lightning deal for the specific price of $20.80, making them under $2 per bar, which defeats Trader Joe’s standard price and the Whole Foods sale price (they have a 2 for $4). The $20.80 price makes it $1.73 per par. If you have any leftover credit from the Sample Boxes, it will also apply automatically. I had a $1 leftover that I hadn’t previously used that got auto-applied to my order last month.

So what evidence do I have of the pattern? Three pieces of hard evidence and more “memory evidence”. Last Monday, starting at 11am Eastern, there was a lightning deal on the Blueberry 12-pack for $20.80. I took a screenshot (the time below is Pacific):

Evidence #2 and #3 surfaced was when I went digging into my order history. I had placed ordered on these on October 17 and also in June 2016, and both were $20.80 lightning deals. I don’t know what the starting prices were for these, the order page only shows the date, not the exact order time.

HOW to LOOK for IT?

There are two ways to look for it. You can go to the product page for the 12-packs and check for a sale on Monday AM. I don’t have enough data to be able to guess which flavor would be offered. They are all on the same listing, ten official options (nine flavors, and one assorted).

The other way to check is the Grocery Lightning Deals. If you are checking too early, you can try filtering by “Upcoming” to cut down on the volume of the listings.

Again, having said all that, keep in mind this is ONLY a PATTERN, there is no guarantee this will happen every week, or next week or ever again. I will pay attention to them though (since I like them and buy them), and will update this post when I “recalibrate my model”. Yes, I am the Nate Silver of RXbar Lightning Deals 🙂

Prime members: Buy $10 Protein Bar Sample Box, Get $10 Credit for Future Protein Bar Order

We have good news for you if you are a Prime member and like to try different protein bars! Amazon is expanding its “Sample Box with Credit” promotions. A few weeks ago we mentioned the K-Cup sampler promotion (currently unavailable). Now they are offering a similar promotion for protein bars.

  • you are a Prime member
  • you buy this $10 Protein Bar Sample Box (you get at least 8 of them)
  • One Week after Order Shipment Date (not Purchase Date), you get an email from Amazon saying they added a $10 credit to your Amazon account (this is behind the scenes, you don’t need a coupon code)
  • THEN you can use that $10 credit to buy select Protein Bars, sold by Amazon, not marketplace sellers. Over 2000 items are eligible (don’t buy these until you get your email informing you of a $10 credit!!!)
