LG Volt 4G LTE (Sprint or Virgin) for $80 [no contract]

On the prepaid smartphone front, the LG Volt 4G LTE smartphone is available for $80 at Virgin Mobile (USA) and also for the newer Sprint Prepaid Service. Since you own the phone immediately, you can also use it as a Wifi-only device without a plan.

It has a 4.7-inch quarter-HD (not quad HD) IPS display (960 x 540 resolution) with Gorilla glass, Android 4.4 out of the box, Snapdragon processor, microSD (up to 32GB) and such. It averages 4.1 at VM based on 460+ customer reviews and 4.2 out of 5 based on 1300+ customer reviews over at Amazon.

Samsung Galaxy S3 (Sprint prepaid) for $180 [no contract]

Yes, Samsung just announced the brand new Galaxy S6 with all the latest fancy technology (but no microSD and no user-replaceable battery). But if you want to save and treasure the two aforementioned features, and you are willing to go prepaid or use it as a Wifi-only device, the Sprint Prepaid version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 goes for $180 (was $150), in new condition, at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of three per customer. No contract!

Note this can only be used on the new Sprint prepaid network. It cannot be used on the Virgin Mobile or Boost Mobile networks. With up to 64GB via microSD (you can easily get them for under $30 these days), and 2GB RAM, and a boatload of accessories and hacks, this is not a bad deal for $150!

Prepaid smartphones are the new budget portable media players these days. Case in point, for just $40, you can get the LG Tribute in either the Sprint Prepaid or Virgin Mobile configuration, with a limit of three per customer, at amazon.com. No contract, and you can always use this as a wifi-only device without a plan. However, for cellular service, each one is locked to Sprint or Virgin respectively.

It has a 4.5-inch WVGA IPS display, 1.2 GHz quad-core budget Snapdragon 400, Android 4.4, removable battery (!), 4GB memory (about 1.5GB is user-usable) and microSD slot (up to 32GB), and more. Check the user reviews and answered questions for more details over there.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Sprint Prepaid) for $400

2015 is here and no doubt a new Samsung Galaxy S flagship smartphone will be announced, but in the meantime, the S5 is the current Galaxy S flagship and it is on sale! The white 16GB version goes for $400 with no contract in the Sprint Prepaid version at Amazon.com. You can buy as many as you like. This is not part of the lightning deals, it is a sale price. Only the Sprint Prepaid version is on sale, the Virgin and Boost Mobile versions remain at $550+ prices.

If you want to use it with a cellular service, this is Sprint Prepaid. But you can use it as a Wifi-only device as you please. No contracts!
