The January 2016 Samsung Kindle e-book choices are out

If you have a Samsung Galaxy device, depending on which one and when you bought it, you may be eligible for a free Kindle e-book per month, typically from a choice of four e-books, either for 1-year or as long as you have the device. The featured ebooks are almost always part of the Kindle Unlimited program, so if you are subscribed to that, that’s another way to get those ebooks.

To get them, you need to download the Kindle app from Samsung’s own Android app store. Not the Google Play, not the Amazon App store. But the one from Samsung, whatever name it has now – I think it’s Galaxy App store but who knows they may have changed it yet again 🙂 Once you download it and login with your Amazon account, if you are eligible, one of the options in the left hand side menu are the Samsung Book deals.

TIP: do not get an ebook unless the price you see is $0.00. If the price is not $0, you will be charged! If you just signed up, wait for a few minutes for things to sync up or restart the app or the device to force a sync up.

Incidentally, one benefit of getting the Kindle app from Samsung’s own store is that it is designed to work with the S-Pen. It offers practical benefits, such as using the S-Pen to turn pages and to quickly highlight text. The highlight part can be a bit of a double-edged sword though, you can easily highlight something – until you get the hand of it.

As you can see from the picture above, the choices for January 2016 are:

  • “Wynn in Doubt” by Emily Hemmer
  • “The Palace Job” by Patrick Weekes (Book #1 in a series)
  • “The Field of Blackbirds” by Thomas Ryan (part of a 2-book series)
  • “Warrior’s Revenge” by Coreene Callahan

Unlike Kindle First that offers brand new pre-release ebooks, the Samsung program selects previously published ebooks that have been around for a while and have assembled a review profile to help you make a decision. The four selections above range from 130+ to 300+ customer reviews each, so you can make a decision now. But you don’t have. You have until January 31st in 2016. After that, a new quarter of ebooks will be offered.
