[DEAD] Watch for FREE: Season 1 of Outlander (Starz)

UPDATE (April 12, 2016) Since the original post, Starz launched their own standalone subscription option and updated their apps. The promotion mentioned below is no longer available.

You can still start a 7-day free trial (directly from the Starz apps or thru Prime) and if you don’t like it, you can cancel. It is a month-to-month subscription (like Netflix). Note that if you sign up through Prime, you don’t get a Starz account, you have to watch through Amazon’s own video apps (Instant Video, Web Browser, etc) and channels (Roku, FireTV, etc).

I believe some cable companies are having a weekend binge promotion that includes Starz (I think Comcast Xfinity) but I don’t know if that’s open to all or only their own customers or even further restricted to their TV subscribers.

ORIGINAL POST (OFFER NO LONGER AVAILABLE)
Season 2 of the Starz Outlander TV series begins on April 9 in 2016. To get more people hooked to their flagship show, for a limited time, Starz is making the whole of Season 1 (16 episodes along with various behind the scenes features) available to watch for FREE for everyone. You don’t need a cable account, you don’t need a Starz account. You can just press play and watch!

This is available in many different places Starz is available. I have verified this works with the Starz Play channel on Roku, the Starz Play app on Google Play and also the Starz website for computers (Flash is required, and you must verify you are over 18 by clicking a button).

This is great for cordcutters, since you watch without a cable authorization. And if you get hooked and want to watch Season 2 immediately, you can sign for a month to month Starz subscription for $8 per month as an add-on to your Prime membership. The price is lower than cable (you can’t sign up for Starz directly yet), the catch is that you can only watch it through Amazon Instant Video (app, Roku, web browser, etc), not through the Starz Play app. The Starz Play app is only for cable subscribers (and free previews).

The TV series is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series with the same name. The series consists of eight books and a few stand-alone short stories.
