YMMV: Audible Cancellation Offers: The Light Listener Plan

So I was on an Audible membership plan that was about to expire. I didn’t need any additional audiobooks, and nothing new is on the horizon for me, so I used their website to cancel the service. Before I was able to cancel, their system offered me two separate offers.

First up, was an offer to continue for an additional three months at half price of the regular monthly fee. Screenshot below:

Since I don’t have any audiobooks that I want to get, I passed on this offer. Next up was a different kind of offer, a rather curious and semi-tempting one, you pay $10 per year. You don’t get any new audiobooks, but if you have any credits, you can carry them forward. Screenshot below:

But the biggest benefit of this $10/year membership is that you can participate in the various sales, so if you frequently buy audiobooks, this could easily pay for itself.

There was also news this week that Amazon is building up Audible as a premium service, and working on adding additional radio-style content to it. So perhaps this “Light” membership may be ..lighting the way for access to the radio-style content without committing to audiobook purchases? (this is only crackpot theory, I have no other knowledge).
