If you are a Prime member, Amazon has yet another promotion for you. If you make a purchase using your Discover Cashback Bonus, you can get up to $15 off your order by doing so and entering coupon code DISC16EVER in the Amazon shopping cart. This promotion only works if you hadn’t previously done this. This is a great deal because it is a 1:1 translation, $1 Discover Cashback converts to $1 in Amazon buying power. Needless to say, you need to have your eligible Discover credit card added to your Amazon account. If you had previously used that card on Amazon, it’s all good. If not, you have to follow the steps to “link” them together.
NOTE: this promotion is only good for the first time you use Discover Cashback (your actual earned reward money) to pay for an Amazon order. If you had previously used it, you can’t do it again. You don’t have to remember, or dig up purchase receipts. You simply add items to your shopping cart, select that as the payment method and enter the coupon. If the discount kicks in, it’s all good. If not, then you are not eligible.
I haven’t done this before, so I added an item to the shopping cart, selected the Discover Cashback payment option, entered the coupon, and voila, the $15 off discount appears in the Shopping Cart page. Once you enter the coupon, the Cashback becomes the main payment method, overriding any Amazon Gift Card balances you may have. Here’s a screenshot of that part of the page:
NOTE ALSO that I do not know if everyone is eligible for this promotion, or only customers who see this offer in their accounts, eg while browsing around the Amazon website. I can’t test this, so it’s a YMMV.
This is part of Amazon’s “Shop with Points” promotion which is seeing more action these days, as Citibank’s Thank You program is pushing some new terms that will try to make the processor smoother. However, the Thank You points DO NOT have a 1:1 translation, so you are better off using your Thank You to get gift cards from the Thank You Portal for your favorite retailers (they have a 1:1 conversion rate).
This promotion is good until 12/31/16, so you have plenty of time to use it or accrue enough Discover Cashback to get the maximum discount ($15 off).
