7pk Hanes Men’s Briefs for $8~ (sizes S, M, L, XL)

If you are fond of the good old Hanes white men’s briefs, they are currently on sale as a 7-pack for under $8 per pack at Amazon by Amazon actual. The sizes available for under $8 are Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large (XL). You can buy as many as you want of each size. (well, theoretically there’s a limit of 30 per size, but who’s gonna buy more than 210 pairs of underwear of a single size in one transaction? – in that case, just place separate orders?)

UPDATE (10/2/15): some of the Amazon options are out of stock, but can still be ordered if you don’t mind waiting. Don’t just look at the price in the main price-box. Look also on the right side of the page where it shows alternate prices. Amazon’s there for some of the sizes, still under $8!

NOTE: these are only available in white at this sale price!

NOTE #2: they are doing fairly well review wise, they average 4.4 out of 5 based on 360+ customer reviews.

Various Stargate DVD series/seasons for $10 or less

If you are missing some seasons from the three different Stargate TV series (SG-1, Atlantis, Universe), or you only want to buy specific seasons and not the whole boxed set, at the moment, Amazon has various seasons on sale for around $10 or less. Here are some prefilled searches to help you find the ones you may be interested in:

  • Stargate SG-1 (ten seasons, DVDs)
  • Stargate Atlantis (five seasons, DVDs)
  • Stargate Universe (two seasons, DVDs)
  • some are available as BluRays for a few dollars more
  • NOTE: all seasons are available for free streaming with the Amazon Prime membership
  • if you need the complete series, wait for the holiday sales, they will likely go on sale at least once (guessing)

Unlocked 32GB Motorola Nexus 6 (XT1103) for $300

If the new Nexus 5X and 6P devices are not to your liking, there’s further discounting on last year’s Nexus 6 by Motorola. You can get it in new condition, carrier unlocked, in the 32GB denomination for $300 with free shipping, with a choice of blue or white, with a limit of five per customer, from eBay seller “QualityCellz” (99.2%). This is model XT1103.

This does not have a microSD, but it is one of only a few phones at the moment that can work with Google’s Project FI, whose defining feature is giving you an account credit for unused data in your account.

After 2pm: 25% PSL or Toasted Graham Latte with coupon (one time use)

Starbucks continues to usher out new promotions for their Rewards members. This new promotion runs September 29 thru October 5 in 2015, but only after 2pm local time each day. This offer gets you 25% off either a Pumpkin Spice Latte (“The PSL”) or a Toasted Graham Latte (regardless of size). You need a promo code for this offer, you have to show or mention promo code 2574 when you redeem it. This is a one time offer per Starbucks email.

I guess “The PSL” is too popular for them to allow the coupon to be used multiple times 🙁

Deal Tip #1: Plenti rounds up Gas points

We start a new series of “Deal Tips”, posts that can help you make the most of your money. We start with the Plenti rewards program. Their gas rewards are pretty stingy, 1 point per gallon of gas, which, given the current gas prices, is about 0.3% to 0.4%. Sometimes they have special bonus point promotions which helps a bit.

Audiobook (mp3s on CD): Rothfuss Wise Man’s Fear for under $9

Patrick Rothfuss’s “The Wise Man’s Fear” is a long book, almost 1000 pages (993 per the product description). It is the second book in his popular “Kingkiller Chronicles” fantasy series. If you don’t feel like reading the book, and don’t like the restrictions of Audible, he and his publisher offer an additional option, an MP3-CD version of the audiobook. This is all legit, sold by Amazon.com actual, on sale for under $9. You get a CD with mp3 files, this is not stacks and stacks of audio CDs! [free 2-day shipping for Prime members]

NOTE: some of the earlier reviews mentioned that some chapters were missing from some MP3-CDs. So keep an eye out for that.

New 10% BofA BankAmeriDeals: Tigerdirect, Veggie Grill, Five Guys, Papa Murphys

If you have a Bank Of America credit card, a new quartet of offers were recently activated. Now I don’t know if these become available to every member or they are targeted to a subset of their cardholders depending on whatever criteria their computer uses.

So with that YMMV out of the way, the four new offers that were recently added are shown in the annotated screen-shot picture right after this sentence:

$5 DVDs: Justified Season 1, Deliverance (Deluxe)

If you are okay with DVDs and don’t have to have BluRays for everything (after all they are going to start pushing the 4K thing now), there are a couple of critically acclaimed items on sale for $5 or less at Amazon. And better yet, if you are a Prime member, you get free shipping:

Sept 18-21: 8 bonus stars with packaged Coffee or Tea at Starbucks

IF you are a Starbucks Rewards member and if you have received notification (email or app) that you are eligible for this promotion, between September 18-21 in 2015, if you purchase packaged coffee or tea, you will earn 8 bonus stars. The email says you can use this promotion up to ten times during this promotional period. As usual, you have to pay with the Starbucks app or a gift card registered to your Starbucks rewards account.

The screenshot from their email explains the eligible items:

sbux_prepackaged_bonus_stars

Strategy: assuming you redeem Starbucks rewards for items priced $6 (their most expensive foods or monster drinks with extras), the “value” of a reward star is around 50c. So 8 bonus stars plus the regular star, means you get a $4.50~ value for each packaged coffee or tea item you purchase. Depending on the prices, this may be a pretty pretty pretty good deal (as Larry David likes to say).

23oz Glass Infuser Teapot for just $5

Teapot fans, this one is for you. It’s just $5! It is a green glass teapot with a metallic infuser, going for just $5 at the Cost Plus website. It is available for shipping (which is extra if you just buy this one) but you may also be able to pick it up at your local store (check by zipcode to see). This is product number 446247.

From the looks of it (there’s only one picture there and I don’t have it in hand), you can also close the teapot without the infuser basket (handy for people who like to let the tea leaves “swim” in the tea pot). Or if you like to use different teapots for different kinds of teas, this one is already color coded in green 🙂
