Fossil 2nd Generation Smartwatch and Hybrid sale

The Fossil Q (second generation; aka previous generation) smartwatch is on sale for $123 and among a number of other FOSSIL smartwatches and hybrids that are on sale through Amazon. Note that you can change watchfaces, so the ones you see in the pictures are not the only options. In other words, don’t decide on a watch based on the advertised watchface.

HOWEVER, keep in mind that their second generation watches are NOT running Android Wear 2.0 (the latest version) and a number of them have a flat tire. So unless you are buying at a specific price-point, or don’t want to wait for further sales in the next few weeks/months, you may want to go for the newer models.

I have an in-progress review of their 3rd Generation Explorist running Android Wear 2.0 and without a flat tire. I don’t think I would be a happy camper without those two. Then again, it depends on how you plan on using the watch.

Saturday: refurbished Samsung Gear S2 for $100

One of the Amazon daily deals running until Sunday 3am ET (10/22/17) is the certified refurbished dark gray Samsung Gear S2 Smartwatch offered for $100 with free shipping, sold by a marketplace seller with the orders fulfilled by Amazon, so Prime members get free 2-day shipping.

This refurbished model averages 3.4 out of 5 based on 360+ customer reviews and has over 180 answered questions. This is a Tizen smartwatch OS device, but works with most Kit Kat and later Android smartphones.

I only recently finally gave in to the temptation to try out smartwatches with the Fossil Q Explorist, model FTW4004, an Android Wear 2.0 device. So far, I found it more useful than I had expected. Which is probably why I resisted for so long until the Watch OS matured more with Android Wear 2.0 🙂

New Arrivals: the Fossil Q Explorist Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches

The third generation of FOSSIL’s entry into the Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches is here! Four new models are now in-stock and shipping at at amazon.com, with the initial prices running from $255 to $275. As you can see in the pictures over there, there is a concentrated attempt to make them look more like watches and less like mini smartphones 🙂

If you are curious or interested in this, we have a text and pictures unboxing post for one of them four new models, it is the brown leather strap model, the FTW4004.

Buy TWO Amazon ECHO devices for $280 total

If you are sold on the Amazon ECHO devices (not the new one with the touchscreen), you can use coupon code ECHO2PACK to get $80 off the purchase of two Amazon ECHO devices. They currently go for $180 each, so the coupon makes it $280 total instead of $360.

Amazon offers 5-month installment plan on FireTV (YMMV)

With more and more companies entering the fray of internet TV (YouTubeTV is now live in five major cities, Hulu is next, Apple is pondering), streaming boxes become more and more valuable, and unlike the dreaded cable boxes that are typically old, slow and you pay for them monthly anyway even if you don’t own them, they are yours.

And if you want to spread the payments over, Amazon is offering (to some customers, YMMV, I don’t know if everyone sees this) a zero-interest five-month installment plan. They take the price of the Fire TV which is currently $90, they divide it by five, and they charge your credit card that amount ($18) every month for the next five months.

If their computer offers this to you, you will see something like this on the product page (this with a desktop web browser):

Mechanical Keyboard: 104-key Aukey with Blue Switches and LED for $29 with coupon

Then enter coupon code AUKEYBD6 in the shopping cart (that’s 28% off) over there, and the price drops to $28.79 with free 2-day shipping for Prime members!

This is a brand new model (which is why it is discounted to generate traction), so it only has three customer reviews so far, all posted in March 2017.

Email coupon: $10 off a $10+ purchase at CentralComputer

This is another brick and mortar coupon delivered by email. Regional computer store chain “Central Computers” is offering a $10 off coupon towards the purchase of $10+ to all their email subscribers. Check your emails or your spam folder if you are subscribed! The coupon is a unique promo code for each customer and can be used until 4/21/17 at 7:30pm local time. A very specific expiration date.

Partial screenshot of the offer below:

The coupon can only be used IN-STORE, not for online purchases. It can only be used once per customer and can only be used for items that are available (in-stock).

500GB TiVO BOLT DVR for $155 (subscription required)

If you like the TiVO service and don’t object to paying for it on a monthly or annual basis, the new condition 500GB TiVO BOLT DVR is currently on sale for $155 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual. You can use this with a cable subscription or an over-the-air antenna, but you still have to pay TiVO a monthly or prepaid subscription. It averages 3.9 out of 5 based on 369 customer reviews.

If you use antennas only, and you are a cordcutter (no cable subscription), and you hate the idea of paying TiVO a monthly subscription, they have a different product, the TiVo Roamio OTA DVR goes for $370. Think of it as prepaying the TiVO service for the lifetime of the device. It also integrates some of popular online streaming services.

On the other hand, if you are the second paragraph, but hate paying that much for a device, and don’t watch a lot of TV, you can get single-tuner chinese OTA DVRs for around $30. These have primitive user interfaces, and remind of VCR programming usability, but the price is right. I have tried and reviewed one of these devices if you want to get a feel for them, here’s my unboxing (text/pictures only) and my review summary of the Mediasonic HW-150PVR.
