The combined Office Depot and Office Max rewards program is sadly much closer to what Office Depot used to have and not what Office Max had. So no more rolling of rewards. But if it still works for you, for the week of June 5-11 in 2016, at Office Max and Depot brick and mortar stores, the Duracell battery promotion is back!
You can buy up to two 16pks of Duracell AA or AAA single-use alkaline batteries. You pay the full price plus sales tax. Then a few weeks later you get $13.98 back in rewards, making it a 1c after rewards offer. These are marked as “Bonus Rewards”.
I am not sure exactly what’s going on with these. The previous times I did these, I got the exact amount as Rewards. But last month, these went through as normal rewards, so instead of the $28~, I got $20 in rewards and the rest rolled into the next month.
So be careful. Remember, if you haven’t filled in your profile yet, you get 200 bonus rewards (if you are close to 1000 at any point in time). This is a one time thing, so use it strategically. Remember also that purchases at their Print and Copy Center earn 10% rewards, in case you are very close to the 1000 point mark.
Also running in parallel for the same week is a 3pk Pentel EnerGel RTX that is 1c after $7.78 in Bonus Rewards. Limit two here as well.
Remember, the ones mentioned in this post are the brick and mortar offers. The online offers are revealed on their website every Sunday morning and they can be different.
RANT!
It looks like both Staples and Office Depot are doing some tricky gymnastics with their rewards. You “earn” the rewards as they claim, but you can’t redeem them unless it is a multiple of $5 or $10. A very sneaky way to effectively pay less than the rewards they originally promised. Probably legal gymnastics their lawyers and accountants agreed upon, but very deceptive!
I really hope some of the more aggressive Attorney Generals go after them for this misleading practice.
