99c HD Movie Rentals for Prime members (47 choices)

If you like to rent movies online, and if you are a Prime member, Amazon has launched yet another promotion, a total of 47 movies are available to rent for 99c each in HD. The usual rental terms apply, you have 30 days to start watching the movie. Options include “The 5th Wave” and Lord of the Rings (all three available separately), Sherlock Holmes, older Mad Max movies, and a mix of recent and classic movies. Remember you can also use your “digital credits” if you have any in your account, so you could end up watching them for free! Check the selections at Amazon Instant Video.

PS: the promotional banner says “this weekend”, but does not provide a specific expiration date.

10-inch ASUS Chromebook Flip (4GB RAM) for $265 [limit 3]

In a sea of Chromebooks, the ASUS Flip managed to climb to star status without actually doing anything. The reasons for its claim to fame are existential, it’s the only Chromebook at the moment that is capable to receive Google builds that allow it to officially run Google Play apps. Google is working to make this feature mainstream, and more new Chromebooks will come out in the next few months/years that are optimized for this.

But if you don’t want to wait until then, and you want to boldly try out Google Play on Chrome OS right now, the ASUS Flip is where it’s at. Which means sales are going to be harder to come by for it, and smaller discounts will be the norm until competing and better models are released.

To cut a long story short, the 4GB RAM with 16GB on-board storage model is currently going for $265 with a limit of three units per customer at Amazon by Amazon actual. This has a 1280 x 800 IPS touchscreen, flipping all the way to touch the back of the keyboard to form a “thick tablet”. This has a Rockchip quad-core processor.

Office Supply Doorbusters Begin Sunday 7/10/16

Just like clockwork, the first weekend after the 4th of July holiday is the unofficial start of the Back to School blockbuster sales! Staples is bringing back their “Less List” that has a certain group of items with fixed sale prices that run throughout the back to school season. They’ll also have a trio of items at 25c each with a limit of five per customer for next week.

Meanwhile Office Depot-Max is bringing back the penny items, as long as your order total is $5 or more. In addition to the penny items, they have a nice of 25c items (24pk Crayola crayons, 5pk BIC highlighters, Sharpie singles). They also have a variety of Rewards specials on paper, but pay attention to the terms of each offer as some of them are “Bonus Rewards” and other “Regular Rewards” which are paid only in multiples of $10. *SIGH* Where are the State Attorney Generals to grab them by the ear for this nonsense?

You can see all the offers by going to the Weekly Ad pages of their respective websites.

$5 Digital HD purchase: The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

The price of a Digital HD purchase is about the same as a movie rental, so you are better off buying it instead of renting it. I am talking about the movie “The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, the second in the rebooted 21st century version of this film saga. This offer is available at Amazon Instant Video. If you have any Amazon digital credits (eg, if you select slow shipping as a Prime member), they will be applied automatically to your order, so you may end up paying even less.

Free ebook for select Samsung devices for July 2016

Amazon is not the only one giving away a free e-book every month (for Prime members). Samsung does that too and their freebies are not universal either. Only select Samsung devices are eligible for this promotion and only if you download the Kindle app from Samsung’s own app store ~ whatever name they call it this week 🙂

When you download the app, there is a section on the left hand side menus that says Samsung Book Deals. When you click on that, you will see the four free monthly options. For July 2016, these are ebooks:

samsung_ebooks_july_2016

Or if you prefer the options in text, here they are:

  • “Atlas” by Isaac Hooke
  • “Just one thing” by Holly Jacobs
  • “Flying Blind” by Max Allan Collins
  • “600 Hours of Edward” by Craig Lancaster

You can pick one of the four for FREE. If your device is eligible, you will see a price of $0 on the ebooks. If you don’t see $0, it means your device is not eligible. If you buy it with anything other than $0, you will be changed! (you can easily reverse it by going to amazon.com/myk, but it’s wasted effort if you don’t see $0).

All these ebooks are part of Kindle Unlimited, so they have enough reviews out there to help you device whether to get them or not.

T-Mobile Tuesday offers for July 5 revealed

Time flies faster and faster, a new Tuesday is almost upon us, and T-Mobile is teasing the upcoming Tuesday July 5 (2016) offers on their app. As you can see from the screenshot below, we have one new offer and three returning promotions.

tmobile_tuesday_july5

The four freebies are:

  • $20 Stubhub Concert credit
  • $15 Lyft ride credit
  • $5.50 Vudu credit (buy or rental TV/movies)
  • Small Wendy’s Frostie

All but the Wendy’s can be redeem as unique promo codes you have to use. The only one that requires immediately redemption in-store is the Wendy’s frostie. You don’t get a unique code, you just have to press the option in the app when you are at the Wendy’s cash register ~ and hope the Wendy’s cashiers were trained on how to do this.

The other thing to note is that Vudu’s credit expires earlier than the end of day on Mondays. So if you plan to use it, make sure you use it before Monday. This six day window is only on using the credit. Once you use the credit, the purchases/rentals follow the standard Vudu terms (30 day window for rentals, “forever” for digital purchases).

Pebble Steel Smartwatch (Black Matte) for $100

It’s raining smartwatches and wearables these days. But if you have decided on the Pebble Steel Smartwatch, the Black Matte color scheme is currently on sale for $100 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual. This averages 3.9 out of 5 based on nearly 1000 customer reviews. Note that this is an older model, which is why it sells for 1/2 the price of the newer models. Make sure you also check for compatibility between this and the devices you are planning to use it with. It’s the Wild West of Wearables these days 🙂

20% off Tea at the Peet’s Coffee website with coupon

This is a bit of a tongue twister. Coupon code TEA20 gets you 20% off the purchase of all Teas at the Peet’s Coffee website 🙂 The discount applies to all the teas they offer online including tins, bags/pouches, and bulk purchases. This cannot be used in-store or for the purchase of subscriptions. Nowadays the Peet’s website has mostly Mighty Leaf branded teas but there are still some Peets-branded teas left. Offer ends at the end of day on Monday 7/4/16.

Samsung S-View Flip Case for Note 4 for $6 w/free S&H

Accessorize this! This is a bit of a niche offer, but if you have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 smartphone and you like the official Samsung S-View Flip case, you can get it for $6 with free shipping, in either the red or the white color schemes (the other colors are not available) by eBay seller Cellfeee (99%, New York). You can stock up like crazy, the limit is 50 per customer. Nearly 1100 units got sold so far per the statistics over there.

Refurbished HTC One M8 for $110 [WinPhone or Android]

From the current flagship, we go to a flagship of yesteryear, it’s HTC time. It’s the One M8, the first flagship in their line to include a microSD memory card. This particular offer is “seller refurbished” which is a higher risk (and lower price) typically compared to manufacturer refurbished. So if you don’t like risks, you may want to skip this. On the other hand, if you are comfortable with the risk/reward of such offers, keep reading…

eBay seller “Quality Cellz” (99.2%) is offering the seller-refurbished HTC One M8 for $110 with free shipping, with a limit of five per customer. It ships from California.

IMPORTANT: this listing sells two different versions, Android or Windows. Make sure you select the correct OS! This is unlocked without any contract requirements.

The specs are three flagships ago, a Snapdragon 800, 2GB RAM, 32GB on-board, microSD, 5-inch 1080p display, etc. Be sure to check Bands and Network compatibility if you are planning to use it with cellular data.

Refurbished Nexus 6P (Huawei) for $350

If you want to get the latest flagship Nexus phone but don’t want to pay a flagship price, there is the refurbished option, which is more appealing when it is manufacturer refurbished. Which brings us to the manufacturer refurbished 32GB Nexus 6P (made by Huawe), unlocked without contract requirements, going for $350 with free shipping by Best Buy’s eBay store. This is an online only offer, there is no store pick up option. Limit three units per customer.

It is as usual a never-ending cycle, do you buy the latest phone now, or wait for the new Nexus phones in the fall that will likely come out to coincide with the release of Android 7.0 (aka Nougat)? This is where refurbished may be a good option, since we are closer to the future models than we are not.
