T-Mobile Tuesdays for 11/22/16 include Thanksgiving e-cookbook, Lyft, ShopRunner

Time does not stand still, no matter what Rush steampunkily sing-songs πŸ™‚ A new T-Mobile Tuesday is fast-approaching, a Thanksgiving-themed one, with the following three freebies scheduled for 11/22/16:

tmobile_tuesday_november22

  • digital Thanksgiving cookbook through the BookShout service (the book service is a returning guest)
  • Free Lyft ride (another recurring guest)
  • six months of ShopRunner, it’s like a Prime for about 100 retailers that don’t have their own Prime service

Overall, this is a bit of a meh offering. If you have an American Express credit card, you can get a free annual Shoprunner subscription. The Lyft ride is limited in scope. The only interesting thing from this lot is the cookbook since it is seasonally relevant. But even that, you only get it two days before the feast, not a lot of time to plan ahead πŸ™‚

Having said all that grumpily, these are freebies, and one can always ignore them if they are not of interest πŸ™‚

Free until 11/7/16 ebook: “Spin” by Robert Charles-Wilson (Tor)

Amazon is not the only one offering free e-books every month. While the Kindle First choice can be picked up until the end of every month by Prime members, the free e-book choice at the Tor eBook Club is only available for the first few days of every month. For this month, good until November 7 in 2016, you can get the book titled “Spin”, the start of a new science-fiction trilogy, by author Robert Charles-Wilson. You have to enter your email address and country to get the freebie.

The e-book is available in two digital formats, ePUB and MOBI (of Kindle interest). You download those files and then it’s up to you to load them on your e-reader. Remember, you can also email ebooks to your Kindle, you don’t have to connect it via microUSB.

Kindle First choices for November 2016 are here: Pick One From Six For FREE (Prime Members)

Yes dear calendar aficionados, a new month has arrived! It is November 2016, and with it, among many other things, we have a new set of six pre-release Kindle e-books for Prime members to pick from, as part of their monthly Kindle First benefit. You pick one of the six for FREE and you can start reading it right away. These e-books will be officially released to the general public on December 1st, and then you can buy them rest of them if you like more than one. If you are not a Prime member, you can purchase one of the six right now for $2.

Without further delay, the six choices are…

  • “The Food Of Love” by Amanda Prowse in Family Drama (no, not a Valentine’s cookbook!)
  • “Nirzona (A Love Story)” by Abidah El-Khalieqy, Annie Tucker in Literary Fiction
  • “Ocean of Storms” by Christopher Mari, Jeremy K. Brown in Scifi Thrillers
  • “The Odds of Loving Grover Cleveland” by Rebekah Crane in Contemporary Fiction
  • “Walk Into Silence” by Susan McBride in Mysteries
  • “Knight Kyle and the Magic Silver Lance (Adventures Beyond Dragon Mountain)” in Kids books

Since these are pre-release books, they have very few reviews right away, so if none of the authors or subjects or titles scream “pick me now”, you can wait for 1-2 weeks for more people to read them and post reviews, and then use the reviews to make an educated guess on which one to pick. You have until November 30 in 2016 to make a choice, just don’t wait until 11:59pm of that day πŸ™‚

PS: I just realized that abbreviations of some genres totally change their meaning, “Lit fiction” is not quiet the same thing, and “Contempt fiction” is also something totally different πŸ™‚

Samsung Book Deals for October 2016 are up

A new month does not only bring new Kindle First choices but also “Samsung Book Deals”. These are not as common because to get them you have to have an eligible Samsung device, and you have to download the Kindle app from Samsung’s own app-store. A plus of that is that it is more S-Pen friendly than the normal Kindle apps.

Which devices are eligible and for how long depends on which device you purchased and when. The fastest way to find out is to download the app and look under the “Samsung Book Deals” section. If you are eligible, their price will be $0.00. After you pick one of them, the price of the remaining ebooks will be their normal price. If you make a mistake, fear not, you can go to your Amazon Kindle account page (eg amazon.com/myk) and void the transaction.

Kindle First choices for October 2016 are up: pick one from six

Time flies dear old friends, we are just three months away from 2017 already. But one of the benefits of time flying is that we have a new month, it’s October 1st, which means a new round of unreleased e-books are offered up on Kindle First. Prime members can select one of the six options for FREE and read it right now (instead of the official November 2016 e-release date). Non-Prime members can purchase one of the options for $2 and read it right away.

kindlefirst_oct2016

And the choices for October 2016 are *imaginary drum roll*

As usual, if none of these strike your fancy immediately, you don’t have to rush. You have until October 31st in 2016 to make a choice. They won’t run out since these are digital e-books πŸ™‚ Their review profiles will fill up in the next few are more of the voracious readers go through them and post their reviews. Having said that, don’t wait until 10/31/16 at 11:58pm to decide πŸ™‚

YMMV $2 Google Play eBook Credit

Google Play is more subdued in their offers than other online stores, but they have some offers flying the radar. Case in point, if you are subscribed to their emails (or wondering about within the Play Store), until September 30 (2016), you can opt-in for a $2 credit to be used towards your next e-book purchase until that date. If you are subscribed to their emails, look for this at the bottom of one of their recent emails (screenshot below):

Or you can wonder about the Play Store, the offers are usually buried somewhere there within…

But that’s not all, you can verify that the offer has been added to your account by going to the “Account” part of the Google Play store and paging down to the “Rewards” section. There you will see all the active offers on your account. Here’s a screenshot of mine:

Samsung Book Deals Options for September 2016

If you have an eligible Samsung device, you get a free e-book every month from a choice of four. Almost all of these are part of Kindle Unlimited and previously released, unlike Kindle First that has pre-release ebooks. Since all these have been out for a while, they have an established review profile…

Kindle First Choices for September 2016 are up: pick one from six ebooks

A new month is here, which means, among many other things, that Amazon Prime members can get another free pre-release e-book from a choice of six that as participating in the Kindle First program. You can read one of those six books for FREE right now. The rest of them will become available on October 1st. Non-Prime members can purchase one for $2. The rest are priced $5 for all.

Without further ado, here are the six choices for September 2016:

  • “The Special Power of Restoring Lost Things” by Courtney Elizabeth Mauk in Literary Fiction
  • “The Unbroken Line of the Moon (The Valhalla Series Book 1)” by Johanne Hildebrandt and Tara F. Chace in Historical Women’s Fiction
  • “The Age of Daredevils” by Michael Clarkson in Historical Nonfiction
  • “Who We Were Before” by Leah Mercer in Family Life
  • “Exhume (Dr. Schwartzman Series Book 1)” by Danielle Girard in Psychological Thrillers
  • “Blood on the Tracks (Sydney Rose Parnell Series Book 1)” by Barbara Nickless in Police Procedurals (because you can’t get enough of them on TV!)

kindlefirst_banner2

As usual, if none of these jumps out at you, you can simply wait for a few days until they get more reviews. The more reviews, the easier it may be to decide. Remember, they won’t run out of these, so you don’t have to hurry up and get one. You have until September 30 in 2016, but don’t wait until 11:59pm on that day πŸ™‚

You can see them all at the Kindle First page.

Free eBooks from Samsung Book Deals for August 2016

If you have an eligible Samsung device, and IF you have downloaded the official Kindle app from Samsung’s own app store (not from Google Play), you may be eligible to get a FREE e-book every month. How long these offers run depends on which device you bought and when you bought it. If there’s one thing certain about Samsung is that they always change their “Perks” πŸ™‚

Unlike Kindle First which features pre-release ebooks, the Samsung Book Deals typically feature ebooks that have been out already and they are almost all part of Kindle Unlimited, so they often have plenty of reviews to help you decide which one you want.

samsung_book_deals_august_2016

The four choices for August 2016 are:

  • “Letters to Love” by Soraya Lane
  • “The Towers of Tuscany” by Carol M. Cram
  • “Rewinder Book #1” (a series) by Brett Battles
  • “A Cold and Broken Hallelujah (Long Beach Homicide)” by Tyler Dilts”

BIG REMINDER: when you look at the ebook’s page, the buy button must say get it for free (not the Kindle Unlimited button but the regular buy button). If it doesn’t say it’s free, you will be charged. Not a big deal, you can always reverse the purchase at amazon.com/myk (mnemonic = my kindle) but if you don’t want the extra step, simply pay attention to what the buy button says πŸ™‚

Kindle First Choices for August 2016 are up!

It’s that time of the month again, a new month is upon us, and a new selection of e-books has been loaded at the Kindle First page. These are new e-books that are scheduled to be released to the general population on September 1st, but if you are a Prime member, you get one of the six for free AND you get to read it right away. If you are not a Prime, you can buy one for $2 and read it right away.

kindle_first_august_2016

Without further ado, the choices for August 2016 are:

  • “The Shelf Life of Happiness” by David Machado, Hillary Locke in Modern Fiction (this is not in self help despite the teaser title)
  • “After Disasters” by Viet Dinh in Literary Fiction
  • “Black Rain” by Matthew B.J. Delaney in Thrillers
  • “Interference” by AmΓ©lie Antoine, Maren Baudet-Lackner in Psychological Suspense
  • “The Things We Wish Were True” by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen in Contemporary Fiction
  • “Tier One (Tier One Series Book 1)” by Jeffrey Wilson in Military Thrillers

Strategically, it’s best to wait a few days before you pick one unless something calls out to you. Since they are pre-release, the only ones reviewing them are other fellow KindleFirsters, so it will take a few days for them to build review profiles that have enough of them to be helpful in deciding. You have until August 31st in 2016 to pick from these, but don’t wait until 11:59pm on that day πŸ™‚ They will change on 9/1/16.

Surprisingly perhaps there are no fantasy or science fiction books in this month’s choices either πŸ™

Free ebook for select Samsung devices for July 2016

Amazon is not the only one giving away a free e-book every month (for Prime members). Samsung does that too and their freebies are not universal either. Only select Samsung devices are eligible for this promotion and only if you download the Kindle app from Samsung’s own app store ~ whatever name they call it this week πŸ™‚

When you download the app, there is a section on the left hand side menus that says Samsung Book Deals. When you click on that, you will see the four free monthly options. For July 2016, these are ebooks:

samsung_ebooks_july_2016

Or if you prefer the options in text, here they are:

  • “Atlas” by Isaac Hooke
  • “Just one thing” by Holly Jacobs
  • “Flying Blind” by Max Allan Collins
  • “600 Hours of Edward” by Craig Lancaster

You can pick one of the four for FREE. If your device is eligible, you will see a price of $0 on the ebooks. If you don’t see $0, it means your device is not eligible. If you buy it with anything other than $0, you will be changed! (you can easily reverse it by going to amazon.com/myk, but it’s wasted effort if you don’t see $0).

All these ebooks are part of Kindle Unlimited, so they have enough reviews out there to help you device whether to get them or not.

June 2016 Free eBook Options for eligible Samsung Devices

If you have an eligible Samsung device (not all of them are qualifying for this promotion) AND if you have also installed the Kindle app from Samsung’s own app store, then you can get a free e-book from a choice of four options every month. These previously released ebooks are also part of the Kindle Unlimited subscription (KU), so if you have that, and your Samsung device is not eligible, you can read them through KU.

The offers run anew in each calendar month, but as usual, don’t wait until the very last minute to get them as time zone differences and IT issues may cause you to miss them. This particular round is good until June 30, 2016.

The Kindle First selections for June 2016 are out: Pick One from Six

A new month is here, that’s right, it’s June 2016 and among the many things this month brings is a new selection of e-books for Prime members to pick from as part of the Kindle First program, one of the many Prime benefits.

As usual, you pick one free pre-release from a choice of six for FREE and you get to read it right now, before its official release on July 1st. Many of these end up in Kindle Unlimited (KU), so if you like more than one and you are a KU subscriber, check there once they go live.

kindlefirst_june2016

So here we go, the choices for June 2016 are:

  • “Pierced by the Sun” by Laura Esquivel, Jordi Castells in Literary Fiction

  • “Journey’s End (Gilded Promises)” by Reenee Ryan in Romance
  • “Cold (A Joe Tiplady Thriller Book 1)” by John Sweeney in Thrillers

As usual with these, since they are brand new, there are very few reviews on the first day of the month, so if none of them stands out for you, you can simply wait for a few days and monitor the reviews to see if anyone emerges as a good candidate. You have until 6/30/16 to pick one of these, so there’s no rush. They won’t run out of e-books πŸ™‚

Kindle First eBook Options for May 2016 are up

If none of them speak to you immediately, wait a few days until they pick up more customer reviews ~ sometimes those can be helpful in deciding.

Without further delay, the May 2016 choices are:

  • “Enemy (On the Bones of Gods Book 1)” by K. Eason in Fantasy
  • “A House for Happy Mothers” by Amulya Malladi in Contemporary Fiction
  • “We’re All Damaged” by Matthew Norman in Modern Fiction

All four of these ebooks (and previous selections) are part of Kindle Unlimited, so they typically have plenty of customer reviews to help you decide whether to get them or not. You have until 5/31/16 to make a choice.
