If you are a fan of Major League Softball (okay, Baseball, but it’s sports smack week) and you are a T-Mobile customer, make sure you don’t miss the Tuesday April 4 (2017) freebies, because one of them will be a 1-year FREE subscription to the MLB Premium At Bat streaming package. This is a season-long subscription, just like last year. The usual exclusions apply, regional blackouts and the like.

Every month a number of places give out free e-books. The Kindle First program is not the only one. If you have a Samsung device that is eligible to participate in the Samsung Book Deals, and if you have installed the Kindle app from Samsung’s own app store (not Google Play, not Amazon’s app store), then you can head over to the “Book Deals” section of the app, and select one free ebook from a choice of four.
If you like to read FREE and DRM-free e-books, you have until March 13 in 2017 to scoop up the March 2017 freebie from Tor. The free book given away this month at their Monthly e-Book Club is “Shadow & Claw” by Gene Wolfe. You have to enter your email for this. After that you can download the book in ePUB (everybody else) and MOBI (Kindle). You can download both versions, you don’t have to select one of each.
These typically start earlier in the month, but for March 2017, they got a late start. But you still have the same amount of time (one week) to claim the freebie 🙂
At Office Depot and Office Max brick and mortar stores, until the close of business on Saturday 3/11/17, if you buy one of the plastic Google PLAY gift cards, you will receive a promo code that can get you a 99c movie rental on any movie available at Google Play. This is a pretty good deal if you want to rent new releases which go as high as $5.99 (eg Arrival). A $10 Gift Card is the minimum, which is still pretty good!
I haven’t done this offer yet. I will let you know how it goes. I will also check to see whether you can pay for this with Office Depot-Max Rewards or not (which would make it an even better deal).

As usual, if none of these “speaks to you” (so to speak), you don’t have to get one immediately. You have until March 31st (2017) to make a choice. In a few more days, each book will have a lot more reviews as the “early adopters” and voracious readers go through them. Then you can use the customer reviews to figure out what to get, or what to avoid (reviews seem to be better at this than the former).

That’s 500 points, which have $5 buying power in future purchases at Rite Aid and other participating Plenti merchants. The promotion is limit two for the shopping week (as usual).
Given that Netflix is rarely discounted, this is pretty, pretty, pretty good! Plenti is free to join, and you can always spend your points on Exxon-Mobil gas if you don’t need anything else from the other participating merchants.

Reading is fun-da-mental! If you want to explore some of the critically-acclaimed science fiction / speculative fiction, a two-book series called “Parable” by Octavia E. Butler is on sale for the Kindle for 25c (yes, that’s $0.25) per ebook. Or you can buy them both together for $0.50 (it saves you an extra click). They are about 800 pages total. Book #1 is the “Parable of the Sower”, and book #2 is “Parable of the Talents”. Both ebooks average 4.4 out of 5 with a combined total of over 600 customer reviews.
If you have a participating Samsung device, and you have installed the Kindle app from Samsung’s own Android app store (not Google Play or Amazon’s), you may be eligible to get one free e-book every month from a choice of four. Some devices are eligible for this benefit for the life of the account/device, while others only have it for a year. Unlike Kindle First, the Samsung Book Deals are NOT new releases. Almost all of them are previously released ebooks that are part of Kindle unlimited. The plus side of this is that most of them have a handful of customer reviews, so you can use those to help you select which one of the four to get for free.

They offer a new ebook every month, but the catch is that you have to claim it within the first week of them. Unlike Kindle First which runs for the whole month.
PS: if you are already signed up for their emails, page further down on the download page and look for the “Already Registered?” section. You enter your email (the one you used to sign-up for the list) and then you get the download options.
If you place a pre-order for the Star Wars Rogue One movie in digital HD at Amazon Instant Video, you are entitled to receive two free digital comic books at Comixology. They are two specific #1s, of Star Wars (2015-) and Darth Vader (2015-). Amazon owns Comixology so you can just login with your regular Amazon account there, you don’t need to create a new one.
The promotion runs until April 30, in 2017, so it will also be good after the movie gets released (purchases instead of pre-orders). Here are the terms of this promotion.
Time flies these days and we are now in February 2017, which means, among many other things, a new round of six pre-release e-books are loaded up on Kindle First. These will be released to the general public on March 1st, but if you are a Prime member, you can get one of those six RIGHT NOW and start reading it RIGHT NOW for FREE. If you are not a Prime-member, you can buy one right now for $2. The rest will be available to everyone on March 1st for $5 each. Many of these end up appearing in Kindle Unlimited, so if you are a subscriber to that service, you can bookmark them until then…

Having said that, I tested it in January, I made my pick late on the 31st, after 9pm pacific time, and it was all good. Amazon is in the pacific time zone, so things on their website chance on the pacific time zone day-change – such as the Gold Box deals.
If you are interested in tea and want an ebook to go along with it, there is a limited time promotion at Amazon, the Kindle edition of the book “The Art and Craft of Tea” by Joseph Wesley Uhl is on sale for $2.99. This is a 160 page ebook. It has many pictures, so it’s best enjoyed (the visual part at least) on color screens (bigger phones or tablets). The text of course is great on e-ink e-readers. This currently averages 4.8 out of 5 based on 19 customer reviews.
You can both request a sample of the Kindle edition, and if you go to the page for the hardcover edition, you can also do the good old “Look Inside” which shows you random content within the book. Both are useful in evaluating an e-book, because the Kindle samples are always the first few pages, while the “Look Inside” jumps all over the book.
The Fargo TV series on FX has been getting a lot of critical praise, but in today’s Peak TV world, it is hard for it to get mainstream action. Still, it’s there to watch and stream if/when you please, and the DVD set for Season 2 of the show is currently on sale for $10 at amazon.com with Amazon actual being the seller of record.
