October 21-29: Verismo V Promotion at Starbucks Stores

This promotion is good for rewards and non-rewards members. The only difference is that Rewards members get 250 Bonus Stars as part of the Reward program. Other than that, the offer works for non-Rewards members as well.

Starbucks brick and mortar stores just launched their new Verismo V coffee makers (K-Cup competitors, incompatible capsules), and they have an in-store bundle offer. The new Verismo V coffee machine on its own goes for $150, but for $30 more, you can bundle it with the Verismo V Milk Frother ($60 on its own) and a free box of coffee capsules (12 pack) of your choice.

For Rewards Members
If you are a member of the Rewards program, and buy the $180 bundle between October 21-29 in 2016, you also earn 250 Bonus points which is the equivalent of 2 full rewards (125 points per reward). This is in addition to the standard 2 points per $1 rewards.

But wait, there’s more! If you are considering to buy this, make sure you buy it on Sunday October 23 if you are eligible for the Bonus Stars October Sundays promotion.

Most people don’t carry these high balances in their account, so if you are convinced you are going to buy it, before you purchase it, get in line (or use the app) to load up your Starbucks account with enough money to pay for it. That way you can get rewards on the amount. Make sure you include enough for sales tax if it’s collected in your state.

I am not planning to buy this, so I won’t have any experiential updates. I am a poor blogger, I can’t buy every offer just for blog-testing purposes 🙁

Double the usual Starbucks Rewards on Sunday 10/23/16

As we mentioned last week the remaining Sundays in October 2016 are Bonus Stars days for (some or all? ~ I don’t know) participants in the Starbucks Rewards program. The bonus for Sunday 10/23/16 has just been revealed via email, and it is a double the regular amount of stars, so you would get 4 stars per $1, instead of the usual 2 stars per $1. This “defeats” last week’s 3 stars per $1. A good opportunity to scoop up some “infrastructure” purchases (cups, coffee beans, tea bags, etc).

UDATED: you may want to take advantage of this together with the Verismo V promotion that runs October 21-29 in 2016.

AmazonFresh: One Cent Giant Pumpkin with order

If you are an AmazonFresh member, and you are planning to place an order this week, you can score a monster pumpkin (20 lbs or more) for just a penny! You still have to place a regular AmazonFresh order, so you can’t just get the pumpkin for a penny and nothing else. The promotion is outlined here at AmazonFresh and expires by Friday 10/21/16 at 11:59pm pacific time. You can find the pumpkin at its own page.

amazonfresh_penny_pumpkin

Remember, AmazonFresh is no longer an annual membership. You pay $15 per month and you are not obligated to continue past the month you paid. I believe they also offer a 30-day free trial IF you haven’t done a free trial before.

The Prime membership requirement still holds, so you have to be a Prime member before you start a Fresh membership. The new month to month plan is _surprisingly_ a better deal than the previous annual plan. Previously, $300 got you one year of AmazonFresh which included 1-year of regular Prime. Now you buy 1-year of Prime ($100) plus 12 months of AmazonFresh at $15 per month = $280 total. Usually annualized offers a discount. So AmazonFresh became both cheaper and more versatile.

NOTE: availability of the offer may vary from region to region, and only works in regions AmazonFRESH is available!

Bonus Stars on Sundays in October [Starbucks Rewards]

For the last three weeks of October 2016, Starbucks will be running Bonus Stars promotion. The offers will be different every week. They have now revealed the bonus stars for Sunday October 16, you get 3X stars per dollar spent, instead of the usual 2X. So that’s 1.5X faster towards getting a reward. So a $42~ purchase gets you a free reward! If you need any coffee beans or coffee cups and such, this is a good opportunity to take advantage of it.

sbux_october_sunday_rewards

You can use this offer as many times as you like during each Sunday. You don’t have to opt-in to the offer, it will go live automatically.

NOTE: as usual with these offers, I do not know if every single Rewards members get them, or a subset, or if they are rotated in groups. So there’s always a YMMV for these posts.

120 tea bags of Celestial Seasonings Almond Sunset Herbal Tea for $14.40 with coupon

If you like to try new tea flavors of the herbal kind, at the moment Amazon has a 20% off Clip-On coupon (you just press the green button) that can get you six boxes of 20 tea bags (= 120 tea bags total) of the Celestial Seasonings Almond Sunset Herbal Tea for $14.40. This price is based on 20% off the current price of $18.

The coupon also works on “Subscribe and Save” (SaS) which has a lower price by 5% or 15% depending on how many other “SaS” items you have going. The list of ingredients is on picture #3 at the Amazon product page. Screenshot showing the clip-on coupon below:

AmazonFresh now $15/month with 30-day Free Trial and $25/$75+ coupon

If you want to try out AmazonFresh or want to use it on a seasonal basis (eg around the holidays or when specific seasonal fruits/veggies come out), they have launched a new promotion, you can now sign-up on a month to month basis. You still have to be a Prime member before you set a virtual foot in the door. The monthly fee is $15 per month, which comes out to $180 per year, in addition to the standard $100/year Prime membership fee. So it’s still slightly cheaper than $299 AmazonFresh membership. You also get a 30-day free trial.

Better yet, if you haven’t done this before, you can use promo code FRESH25 to get $25 off an order of $75 or more. Deliveries are free with orders of $40+, so if you typically have small orders, this won’t help. AmazonFresh has a mix of fresh and packaged items, so you buy items from the latter if purchases in the former are not $40+. The coupon offer expires 12/31/16.

amazonfresh_offer

AmazonFresh has exclusivity of fresh foods at Amazon, but for other, packaged foods, things are more complicated, because you can buy packaged foods in different quantities and different prices in this many different ways:

  • regular Amazon.com purchase
  • Subscribe and Save purchase (often ships from maker)
  • Prime Pantry
  • Prime NOW
  • AmazonFresh

Time for some spreadsheet action to sort them all out 🙂

Lucky Rewards: FREE Red Top Reserve Greek Yogurt (for members)

It’s back to the freebies for Lucky Rewards members, good until the close of business on Tuesday 10/11/16, you can get a free Red Top Reserve Greek Yogurt just by using your rewards number (or scannable card) at checkout, whether it’s with a cashier or with the self checkout. The only thing you need to do is check your Lucky’s Rewards email and press the big ole red button there to add the offer to your account. Once you do that, you are good to go!

lucky_free_yogurt2

Limit one yogurt per customer during this promotion. You don’t even have to buy anything else from the store, although Miss Manners would argue that you have to buy at least one other item 🙂

New Prime Pantry promotion is live, buy 5 participating items, get free S&H

October 2016 is here and this means a new round of Prime Pantry free shipping promotions. The mechanics of the offer are as before, you have to buy five items from the list of participating products and you’ll get free shipping instead of having to pay the usual $6 Prime Pantry shipping fee.

What many people don’t know is that you don’t have to buy five different items, you just have to buy a total of five things. It could be five units of a single item, or any combination in-between. So if you need a specific item and the price is right, you can just buy five units of that item and get the free shipping.

This offer is separate from the occasional slow-shipping Prime incentive that gets you a $6 Prime Pantry credit. Also, some of the participating items may have their own offers, be it clip-on coupons or other combined purchase offers, so pay attention to those as well to make the most of the promotion.

Since Prime Pantry is for Prime members only, I don’t even know why they are charging that $6 box fee since it looks like they are more or less delivered the same way as other Amazon items. It’s not like AmazonFresh where they have fresh and frozen food that needs special handling. Prime Pantry is probably a bit of a “Samsung move” by Amazon, just throw many things out there and see what sticks 🙂

This offer ends 10/31/16 and by reading the terms and conditions, it doesn’t restrict it to one use per customer during this month. So if you are a regular Prime Pantrier, you could try to see if it works a second time as well during the month. I am not currently planning a Pantry order, so I can’t test it at the moment.

Android Pay Offer: $5 off $10+ Yelp Eat24 Orders

Android Pay is running a new promotion until October 15 in 2016, you get $5 off orders of $10 or more using the Yelp Eat 24 app. This is for orders placed via the app, not an in-store/in-restaurant promotion. An email with the details got sent out to people signed up for offers via email, here’s a screenshot of the important part:

androidpay_yelp_eat24

The offer can be used multiple times during this time period, however, they have an “anti flooding” mechanism in place, if you place more than one order within one hour, they may temporarily suspend your payment method. I guess to prevent a digital variation of ordering 100 pizzas?

Heads Up: Starbucks Double Stars Day in first week of October

This is a heads-up alert if you are a regular Starbucks shopper. Time flies, and a “Double Stars” day is almost upon us! Pay attention to the emails you receive from Starbucks (or messages/notifications in their mobile apps) to find out when your specific Double Stars day is going to be.

According to the email teaser they just sent (partial screenshot below):

sbux_double_stars_october_2016

… this will happen next week, meaning the week of October 2-8 in 2016. I think they only do Double Stars on weekdays, so I am guessing most people will get their day between October 3-7 in 2016.

Strategically, this is the time you want to buy the more expensive items. And by that I don’t just mean coffee machines. This is great if you buy coffee mugs/cups, and bags of coffee beans or boxes of teas or K-Cups. With Double Stars, you earn a reward for every $31.25 you spent. With normal stars, you earn a reward every $62.50 you spend.

National Coffee Day Special: Free Shipping at Peets (without minimum)

Today (September 29) is National Coffee Day and various coffee shops (but not Starbucks) are offering specials to celebrate the day. Peet’s Coffee (now owned by a couple of German billionaires, no longer the hippies in Berkeley) is offering free shipping on their website with no minimum order required. This is a good opportunity to pick up an accessory you need, or coffees and teas that would not normally qualify for free shipping.

No coupon code is needed, the free shipping is factored in on their website. One good place to start is their Sales page currently featuring 11 items, but expect that to dwindle as more people wake up to the news of free shipping 🙂

This was announced via an early morning email to their subscriber list. Partial screenshot of that below:

peets_national_coffee_day_free_shipping

UPDATE: here’s another good pick, city-based coffee mugs for $6 with free shipping (during 9/29/16).

12pk Pepsi Cola 1893 Ginger Cola under $10 with coupon

If you are on the Cola Revival bandwagon, there is both a sale and a coupon happening at the moment at Amazon on the 12-pack of Pepsi Cola 1893 Ginger Cola. There is a 20% off Clip-On coupon there, and the coupon is good for one-time purchase and Subscribe-and-Save. As of posting time, the prices are $12 and $11.40 respectively BEFORE the 20% off coupon is factored in. Note that prices can and do change often, so YMMV…

Starbucks Rewards: 45 Bonus Stars on PrePackaged Coffee/Tea and Cups/Mugs/Merchandise [Beats Double Stars for Items under $22.50]

sbux_bonus_45_prepackaged

Starbucks took a break from “Bonus Star” offers for a few of weeks, but they are back now with another offer. This is an in-store offer but it is focusing on pre-packaged coffee and tea. You earn 45 Bonus Stars (that’s roughly 1/3rd of a Reward) when you buy any pre-packaged coffee or tea product from their brick and mortar stores.

But that’s not all. The bonus also works on cups, tumblers and brewers and other assorted merchandise of that sort. Here’s a screenshot of the part of the email that mentions the “other” items:

sbux_bonus_45_prepackaged2

Perusing further down that email, we find the fine-print that says the offer ends on 9/28/16, you can use this offer as many times as you like during this promotional period. The stars will post to your account within 24 hours of purchase. Pre-packaged food items are NOT eligible, only coffee/tea and merchandise (mugs, etc).

BETTER THAN DOUBLE STARS for ITEMS under $22.50
So this is a good time to stock up on that stuff, this is better than double-stars except for items priced over $22.50. During the double star time of the month, you earn double the usual 2X stars, so a $22.50 item will get you 45 bonus stars during Double Stars. With this offer you get a flat 45 stars. With either offer, you earn the standard 2X stars, so that’s a wash.

Lucky Rewards: Free Chips or Popcorn (Market Essentials Brand)

If you are a member of the Lucky Rewards program, there’s another freebie waiting for you, good until Tuesday night (9/27/16). As usual, first you must add the freebie to your account which is easy to do, simply press the big ole red button in the Lucky’s email that mentions this promotion. You can verify it’s there by going to your Lucky’s Rewards account.

lucky_free_popcorn_or_chips

The freebie is your choice, either Chips or Popcorn, all sizes and varieties available, from the Lucky’s house brand “Market Essentials”. Which is why they are so generous with this offer, since it’s their own 🙂 It is a while-supplies-last promotion, but if they happen to run out, you can try asking for a rain-check.

Once successfully added to your account, it looks like this under the Rewards Dashboard over there:
